Custom Workshops & Tours for Individuals & Small Groups
Have you considered investing in an experience that will take your photography further, with a custom-built, all-inclusive, workshop or tour?
I’m rather excited to announce that new for 2025, I’m offering workshops for individuals or small groups of up to 4 people. It was about time.
Reading books and watching videos about the theory of photography are all well and good, but there’s no better way to learn than have hands-on experience with expert photographic tuition and guidance, out on the streets or in the landscape.
My workshops and tours are tailored for you, based on what you want to learn, and the type of photography you want to create.
What You’ll Gain From My Workshops
You’ll be inspired and discover new ways to look at your photography
You’ll gain confidence to try new things and experiment
You’ll dramatically improve your photography skills—both technical and creative—and have lots of fun in the process.
We’ll delve into how to find and see photos, discussing important aspects such as inspiration, intention, creative vision, and expression.
We cover the entire creative process from the reason why you make a photo, through to how best to edit it during post-processing. A key part of my tuition, and included in the package, is making time to review your final photos from our time together, and what you learnt.
Why My Workshops and Tours?
Knowledge and experience.
My working life has been spent studying creativity and visual communications, centred around photography and art. I have a wealth of knowledge to share. But more importantly, a vast amount of practical experience.
I’ve worked in travel, lifestyle and outdoor genres for almost 40 years and been on thousands of editorial assignments, media trips, events, and meticulously planned photoshoots for brands and organizations. I’ve also been a creative director for brands and photo editor for publications, working with other photographers and directing them.
My expertise is travel, landscape and street photography. Photographing people (environmental portraits) has been as important as photographing places. People make a place what it is. People define a culture and create stories that make a place unique.
I believe in storytelling. I believe in making a photo about something, not just of something.
I’m not going to teach you how to merely copy others and mimic the latest trends, i’ll teach you how to see, and guide you through practical hands-on experiences and lessons that will help shape you as a photographer. We’ll focus on why you make photos, as well as the how.
From one day photos walks and tuition, to multi-day tours, i’ll be your location guide and instructor.
My workshops and tours are tailored for you, based on what you want to learn, and the type of photography you want to create.
1 Getting Started
We have a video call to discuss where you would like to go to photograph, and what kind of photography—and subjects—interest you. Stuck for destination ideas? Not a problem, we’ve got plenty!
Our initial discussion will also include gear. We discuss what camera gear you have, if you require a specific camera rental, or need access to additional equipment such as strobes, tripods, filters etc.
2 Build Your Itinerary
Once we have a destination, we put some dates together that might work for you and build a custom itinerary to incorporate the type of photography you want to experience and learn. We take care of finding the best accommodation, based on where we want to spend time photographing.
3 Book Your experience
Once you’ve agreed on your itinerary and accommodation, confirmed you can get appropriate travel and medical insurance, we provide a detailed quotation. A deposit will then secure your custom photography experience.
4 Finalise Your Plans
We have another video call and run through the final details. Once your final payment has been made, you’re all set for an incredible photographic adventure.
5 Review Your Work
After the workshop we arrange a video call to review your work, discuss how you’ve improved and your key take-aways, and make some suggestions for how to best forward on your photography journey.
